Art & Max
By: David Wiesner
Arthur was a painter, but Max wanted to show him that he could do it too. Max ended up changing Arthur into a multi-colored lizard. Then, Max gave Arthur some water, but it drained all of the color from him, which made him almost invisible. He then pulled on Arthur’s outline when he tried to stomp away, turning Arthur into a pile of black lines. Max then had to remake Arthur through art.

Mr. Wuffles!
By: David Wiesner
The cat, Mr. Wuffles, was playing with a spaceship toy that had tiny aliens inside of it. The aliens then tried to escape, prompting the cat to try to get them. While this was happening, a ladybug flew over and got the cat's attention off of the aliens, so they could get to safety. Underneath some furniture, the aliens are having a good time with some bugs, and the cat can't get them. Then, they really wanted to escape, so the cat had to be distracted again. They reached the spaceship, and flew out of the window. This book doesn't have a lot of words, so the reader can interpret the story, based off of what pictures they see.

The
Boxcar Children
By: Eric Denton
Illustrated by: Mike Dubisch
Henry, Jessie, Violent, and Benny were orphan siblings. The children didn’t want to be separated from one another. Before they found a boxcar to live in, they had to escape a bakery, where the woman was going to give Benny to an orphanage and keep the rest of the children. The children found a three-legged dog that they named Watch. Henry, the oldest boy, went to work to try and keep the family alive. One day, they all went to pick cherries at the Moore residence. Dr. Moore read the paper and discovered that the kids’ grandfather was looking for them. He reunited the children with their grandpa and found out that they were afraid that he wouldn’t like them. The kids realized that their grandfather was rich, and they lived in luxury, but they missed their old boxcar. Their grandpa surprised them and brought it to his hosue.
This story moves very quickly, but the pictures help bring it to life. The children stuck together and helped each other out. They didn’t give their grandfather a chance at first, but they ended up being happy living with him. This teaches the reader that everyone should be given a chance.
